How Things Change

Ever sit and think about the changes in your life and/or business? I especially do this at the end of a year, more-so in my business life. This is when I look back over the year and see what my goals were, how I did in achieving them, what held me back, what was challenging and what steps did I take to achieve a goal.

This year in particular, I looked at just how my business(s) have morphed over the years, much like a caterpillar evolving into a butterfly and how much fun I’m having with that. My freelance business had started out back in 2007 as virtual assisting, remote assistance, off-site assistance….whatever you call it, it’s still as an independent contractor or freelancer. While I started out primarily in one niche, over the years I’ve found what I really enjoy doing, better at, and what gives me the greatest satisfaction, not to mention clients.

When I look back over the “morphing” of my business, it’s really kind of cool to just see how it all came to be, and I know it’s going to keep evolving. I’m a person who loves change! I embrace it! Never one to just be content with things staying the same. Go outside your comfort zone! That’s pretty much how I’ve done things in my business and personal life and it really does put a smile on my face when I look back over all of it.

So in conclusion, Change it up! Keep the spark! Embrace the change!

Have an outstanding day and keep smiling…..it makes people wonder what you’re up to 🙂 If you enjoy the site and posts, follow me on Instagram and Facebook and feel free to leave comments. I personally read and answer all comments.…….Cindy

It's Time to Review and Set Goals

Here we go, the year is winding down to a close and a new one is about to begin. I always say where has the year gone! Always reminded of my grandma telling me that time goes faster as you get older, to which I always said “oh granny you’re wrong” Ha, oh how wrong I was and now being a “granny” myself I say the same thing!

As a business owner, this time is kind of a fun time, it makes me take a good look at the past year, all the goals set and exactly how I did, along with what were my biggest challenges. It also allows me to set new goals or maybe update some. Goal setting has always been a biggie for me and it’s funny how it took me so long to “really get it” and see that this stuff really does work and makes a difference. I think my biggest realization of it came when years back I started with declaring my goals out loud, writing them down, and keeping them in my face. I remember writing a sales goal for my month and at that time, I hadn’t kept it in my face, but kept it written down and in my mind. I was super surprised when a few days after the month ended I found my goal sheet and that I had exceeded it by $3,000!!

A few of my 2019 goals still are a work in progress, I look deep into what kept me from reaching them and learn, be it from mistakes I made, or perhaps I just need to learn even more about how to reach them, and then again some I need to just suck it up to the fact that it’s not the destination but the journey, it make take a little more time to get to where I wanna be, but I’ll get there and the journey will have been so well worth it.

While goals need to be big and really make you stretch, they also need to be attainable. I learned early in my goal setting that while setting that BHAG (big hairy audacious goal) is great, it also needs to be attainable. So while say, your BHAG is earning $10,000 by X date, is it realistic for you to do, or perhaps starting with smaller steps like, earn an additional $2,500 by X date, you exceed that then increase the amount and date and exceed that…all those smaller steps will get you to your grand goal and would have been a little more realistic for you. AND there needs to be the roadmap of how to get there. No goal should or can be written down without some sort of “map” of how to get there. You wouldn’t embark on a new journey without knowing how you would get there right? Same thing here. Yes, my goals stretch me, and long long ago I learned to come outta my comfort zone, but they also contain my steps on how I’m going to reach them.

For a goal to be more than just a pipe dream, it needs to be written down and revisited daily! Every day, I write mine down, but I write them down as if they already have happened. It’s training your brain really. Some of my goals have dates set to them, and some do not but even if there’s a date, that can be changed along the way if need be. The bottom line is, just set those goals, raise your bar and get going on a brand new year. It’s a brand new start so seize it!

What's On Your Book List

What’s on your book list, or what are you reading now? What you read is so important. I personally will only read books that will help me, educate me or bring positive change. Usually I keep a running list in my phone notes of books I hear about and as I finish one, I’ll check my list of what to get into next. There was a time when I’d have about three books going at once, but since my lifestyle has changed and my businesses have morphed, well I find I can concentrate better with just one.

Not sure how any of you feel and I really would love to hear from you on this, so feel free to comment….I do personally read every one and will answer back🙂I have an iPad loaded with so many books and it’s super convenient to have so many all in one compact place. However, there is just something about a physical book that always has appealed to me. Having that actual book in your hand, the look, the feel and even the smell. So I find myself ordering hard copy books regularly and I especially love a hard cover book! Just one of my quirks I guess but hey, it’s my own world and everyone there knows me😀I’m also a fan of reading the Bible and that one folks, must be in hard copy form! To me that is one that definitely has the feel and smell. Ever smell a Bible?….ahhh to me it’s something so cool. I have to admit that of late I’ve slacked off on that reading a bit, not something I’m proud of and do like to really try to set time aside for even if only a few minutes a day to devote to Bible reading. It’s one of my habits to get back into and as we’re heading out of 2019, one of my habits to seriously stick to in 2020!

Back to my type of books. I love personal growth, those that deal with growing business, networking or forming those relationships. Personal growth, development…whatever you want to call it, they’re my favorite go to books. Recently, I finished two….what I feel are awesome books written “in real terms and in a real way”. Girl Wash Your Face by Rachel Hollis and Girl Stop Apologizing also by Rachel Hollis. I loved these two! As a budding Influencer myself, these were stacked with useful and practical information along with Rachel being herself and it really coming through in her writing! Loved them!

Now on to my new read, No Place Like Known by Megan Valentine, as the cover says “a journey of self-discovery, chasing dreams, and finding home right where you are”. Looking forward to starting this later, so stay tuned for my feedback later on!

The teacher is always available to the student willing to learn, and I love learning new things that can better my life, business or anything I do. It’s a lot of my reading that has lead me to copywrite, ie content development/management. Love to read and love to write and what I learn along the way sure has helped me.

So on that note, I’m going to end this post and do encourage y’all to hit me back with what you’re reading, and oh yeah…love to hear feedback on what you’re reading, it may even end up on my own reading list!

Have an outstanding day and keep smiling…..it makes people wonder what you’re up to 🙂 ****Cindy****

Life Detours Can Be Amazing

Life, and the changes that can be associated with it.  Today as I was preparing another wonderful cappuccino, looking out my back window, I just had to marvel and laugh at what was going on outside.  Chickens running around, our ducks splashing in their pool, barnyard kitties sunning themselves and looking up at the window to see me and of course our three dogs being lazy at my feet and two Pygmy goats foraging around, it inspired me to do a quick blog on how life can completely turn around and you can find yourself actually living it as you’ve always imagined.

First let me just fill ya in about me.  I now live in what my Dad always referred to as Gods Country and now I know why, beautiful Southern Oregon.  I wasn’t born here, I’m actually a Jersey (New Jersey) native, more typically a Jersey shore girl where I lived for most of my life.  However, I was born and raised my first seven years in the country.

Fast forward over the years and I migrated to more city areas of Jersey (hated them all) and finally to the shore that I absolutely loved.  Always living within Ten to Twenty minutes of the ocean and beaches and also living on a lagoon in a waterfront community.  However, as I mentioned, life can take you in opposite directions.  About Eleven years ago, I was given a paper at a networking function where we were all told by this business coach that each one of us had a paper under our plates and every single one had a message that was unique to each one of us.  (This woman had no idea who were all were or even where we would all be sitting, but these were under each plate and were all different) When we were told to turn over these papers and read it, I was amazed!  **As I read mine, I knew it was absolutely right and it totally pertained to my life at the moment and in the future. I’ve kept that and hung it up in my office and refer to it over and over again and at the same time thank God for this being so true and for all He’s blessed me with.  Including all my life changes, both the good and the bad.

Five years ago, I relocated across the country to Gods Country – beautiful Southern Oregon. My life has completely done a 360 and has never been better! I went from being what many here refer to me as “high heel and dress wearing fancy schmancy girl” or as some of our friends call me “Jersey” to what is truly my place as a “boots and jeans wearing country livin’ farm gal”.  I have come full circle! Started in the country, raised that way for some time and never lost my roots.

My husband (who I met on Farmersonly.com  and yes we did a commercial for them) and I live in a big ol’ farm house  way out in farm country on six and a half acres.  Certainly not considered a lot of property by standards here, but plenty for us.  We’re surrounded by farm fields, mountains, sage brush and trees and the peaceful easy living that goes with all of this.  When we look up at the night sky, we can see every star!

As a Freelancer, Independent Consultant and Independent Market Partner, I basically work from wifi.  A lot of my time is spent taking care of our home and farm and I’m thankful every single day that my life took that turn, change….whatever you want to call it.  I’ve always been one to love and embrace change and I can will all honesty and sincerity say I’m truly livin’ the dream!!

**That message on my paper was this: Mistakes are the detours in life that take you to places you never thought you’d go, but ultimately get you to where you want to be.

Fresh Eggs

Farm fresh eggs, ahh nothing else comes close.

After carefully asking questions and doing my research, I finally decided to jump into raising chickens.  Now just like many of those who may be reading this and have done the same thing, you go to the farm/feed store with this thought in your mind, “I’ll only get 4”. Ha, that lasted about all of the ten minutes when I was talking with the sales/chicken pro at the local Coastal farm store and the decision to go with at least six happened.

That was in April of this year (2018) and once I got these littles home and started enjoying them as they grew I knew I was hooked…um well many of us chicken people refer to being addicted. Once our coop and run was all built and our little ones were now out in their new wide open world, more enjoyment came. When I was working outside, I was amused by what is known as chicken TV.  All of our chickens have names and are very lovingly cared for. Around June as I was in the back of the house, I heard this strange sound come from the coop.  A sound that to me made my eyes bug out! That was the sound of a young bird attempting his first crow…We’ve Got a Roo!  So in an attempt to not confuse the little fella, I changed the name from Chrissy to Ricky after all, it’s close right?  And we already have a Lucy 🙂

As summer went on into late August our first egg appeared!!! I was so excited to find that first egg nestled into the nesting box. It was like a little gift. Everyday I enjoyed going out with my egg basket and gathering up my one and only egg.  Knowing the rest would be coming into laying, I started keeping track on a daily basis of how many we get and gradually it started to increase.

By now they were big chickens and way more fun to watch. Hubby started to enjoy watching and talking to them and sometimes we would just sit out back and laugh over the antics.  Heck just watching them run gave us a laugh, especially the Light Brahmas, these have heavily feathered feet and between their heavy butt feathers and those feet it looks like their running with their pants falling down!  They were now free ranging during the day and having a blast. Gradually they would venture into new territory and just devour little goodies.  Only once did I look behind some boards propped up behind our pump house and find a next of two eggs. No, ladies…you have nice nesting boxes for this! Guess they got the point since I always find their eggs in the coops.

Since our first little batch of chicks, I added eight more chicks and we adopted 7 more older gals of different breeds from a friend who was relocating and along with them came our duck, a beautiful Rouen male who I apply named Drake.  Drake protects his ladies AND ME. If Ricky the roo decides to get outta line, all I have to do is say “Drake help me” and here he comes quickly waddling over to chase Ricky 🙂 We love him and intend to get him one or two duck ladies…well maybe…he’s pretty content with his haram right now ha.  I also wound up getting two more little chicks in late August just cause of their breed and cuteness and 4 weeks later they were out with the big girls and lovin life!

I’m always looking for chicken “hacks”, local finds to use in and around our coops and runs along with making most of my own feed (fermented and dry) scratch, treats and  just keeping them happy in healthy in natural ways.

More chicks are coming in the spring and I do hope at some point someone goes broody and we have our own batch hatched here at Frisendahl Homestead. In the meantime, we enjoy and love each and every one of our “fowl” and enjoy the wonderful gifts they provide us with every single day! Even now that the days are shorter (ah but soon they shall start getting longer) every day I go out and find their colorful array of gifts and I can honestly say that I will never get tired of finding eggs. It’s like an Easter egg hunt in chicken coops every single day 🙂
